Stirring The Pot – Stories From The Food Bank
Bristol Trussell Foodbanks
Address:
Boiling Wells Woodland, Boiling Wells Lane Bristol, BS2 9XY
The Bristol Trussell Foodbanks, alongside the food bank campaigners invite you to join us for an afternoon of food, stories and solidarity.
Stirring The Pot will be a unique opportunity to hear stories from food bank campaigners over a shared meal provided by local food ambassador and chef Josh Eggleton. The event will be hosted by award-winning writer Malaika Kegode at the beautiful Boiling Wells Woodland in St Werburghs. The event is open to the community and service providers and will be part of Feeding Bristol’s Food Justice Fortnight.
Together we will look at one of the key drivers of food bank use in Bristol & South Gloucestershire – Universal Credit. We will hear stories from food bank campaigners who, as part of the Guarantee Our Essentials campaign, have been raising awareness of the inadequacy of the social security system and lobbying politicians to implement an Essentials Guarantee (which would embed in our social security system the principle that, at a minimum, Universal Credit should protect people from going without essentials).
On the 18th of June the campaign group will be travelling to Westminster to lobby the Bristol & South Glos MPs for an Essentials Guarantee. When we get there would love to be able to demonstrate the support of Bristol’s food, support and service networks. As a representative of these networks, this will be an opportunity for you to learn more about and share your thoughts on Universal Credit and show your support for the campaign.
If you have any thoughts or ideas, would like to get involved, have any questions or want any more information please get in touch: community.organiser@bristolnwfoodbank.org.uk.
We look forward to seeing you for a wonderful afternoon of food, stories and solidarity!
