Urban Growing
Grow one thing this spring Bristol! (And share it)
By Bristol Food Network
Today Bristol Food Network is launching a new campaign inviting people across the city to grow one thing at home this spring – and share it on social media.
To kick things off, we’re sharing a short video from The Bristol Rainforest during one of their recent Plant Love Cafe sessions, showing how to grow mustard seeds at home. It’s quick, cheap and easy – proof that you don’t need much space, money or experience to start growing food.
If you’re inspired, we’d love you to take part.

Grow one thing at home – herbs, salad leaves, tomatoes, or even mustard seeds on your windowsill.
Take a photo or short video of what you’re growing or how you’re doing it.
Share it on Instagram, Facebook or Bluesky using #BristolGetGrowing and tag Bristol Good Food 2030.
You could share a photo showing something you’re growing for the first time, an update about an edible plant growing on your windowsill, or even a short “how-to” showing others what worked for you.

The challenge runs until the end of May, giving you plenty of time to plant, nurture and share your growth. At the end of the month, we’ll hold a prize draw. One lucky winner will receive a Get Growing prize bundle, packed with good food and growing goodies to inspire your next gardening adventure.
For the past 14 years, Bristol Food Network (BFN) has coordinated the annual Get Growing Trail, a free open-garden weekend where community gardens, allotments, orchards, city farms and productive parks across Bristol open their gates to the public.
This new campaign builds on that spirit, helping more people discover that growing food can start right at home, even on a windowsill.
Plant a seed. Share what you grow. Inspire someone else to give it a go.
