Urban Growing

Call out to Social Media Creators: Bristol, Get Growing!

By Ramona Andrews

Are you a social media creator who loves telling stories about food, community, creativity and everyday ways to live well? Do you enjoy making engaging, accessible short-form video content that helps people feel confident trying something new?

Bristol Food Network (BFN) is looking for a social media creator to get involved in an exciting new communications campaign launching in spring

ABOUT BFN and THE Get Growing Trail

Bristol Food Network has been coordinating the Get Growing Trail for the past 14 years. The Trail is a free, open-garden weekend that takes place across the city of Bristol, inviting people to explore community fruit and vegetable gardens, allotments, orchards, smallholdings, city farms and productive parks.

In 2025, the Trail ran on 20–21 September and featured 34 growing sites. Visitors were able to experience everything from no-dig gardens and permaculture orchards to hydroponic walls in urban spaces. Many sites hosted tours, workshops, apple-pressing, meet-the-grower sessions and family-friendly activities.

At its heart, the Get Growing Trail is about encouraging people to grow food, highlighting the role of volunteering and community growing, and showcasing the powerful social benefits of these spaces. For many people, the Trail is a gateway to getting involved in local food projects.

About the campaign

This new Get Growing communications campaign will build on the success of the Trail by deepening public engagement and inspiring people across Bristol to try growing food themselves.

The campaign will:

  • Amplify the work of community growing groups across the city
  • Share simple, accessible growing tasks that anyone can try
  • Encourage people to grow one thing this spring, even with limited space, time or experience
  • Support food access, resilient supply and social inclusion

Content will be created in early spring, with a focus on inspiring people to have a go at growing before the summer.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for creators who can help us produce a short video series for platforms like Instagram and Facebook, focused on:

  • Accessible, low-cost ways to grow food
  • Simple DIY approaches (for example, growing herbs on a windowsill using bean tins)
  • Clear, friendly and engaging Reels-style videos
  • Collaborations with local growers, community groups and (where relevant) chefs

Think:

  • “Grow this on your windowsill”
  • “A seed you can grow for under £1”
  • “Grow it, eat it!”
  • “Grow one thing this spring!”

We’re particularly keen to reach people who:

  • Have little or no growing experience but are curious
  • Have limited access to fresh food
  • Live in areas such as Lawrence Hill, Filwood, Hartcliffe & Withywood, Whitchurch Park and Easton
  • Already engage with food, gardening, DIY, sustainability or community content online
